Discord to Blur Sensitive Content in Direct Messages on Teen Profiles

In a significant move towards enhancing safety on its platform, Discord has announced new security features aimed at protecting teenagers. Among the new measures are safety alerts for unknown senders and automatic content filters for sensitive materials shared via direct messages.

Discord, the popular messaging and communication platform, is committed to providing a safer experience for its users. To achieve this, the company has unveiled an initiative called “Teen Safety Help,” encompassing features designed to safeguard the experience of minors on the platform.

Starting in the coming weeks, these features will be rolled out and activated by default on accounts and profiles owned by teenagers. The initiative is a response to growing concerns over the well-being and security of adolescent users.

One of the key safety measures is the introduction of safety alerts for unknown senders. Discord will identify if the message sender is an unfamiliar user and will encourage the recipient to reconsider whether they want to respond. This proactive approach aims to minimize potentially harmful interactions and ensure that teenagers remain safe while using the platform.

Additionally, Discord will provide options to block the unknown user, along with safety tips for self-protection if deemed necessary by the teenager, as outlined in the company’s official blog.

In a bid to protect young users from inappropriate or sensitive content, Discord has also announced the launch of automatic content filters. These filters will automatically blur images received through direct messages, both in individual and group conversations, as well as on servers where potentially harmful content is detected.

“The blurring feature is a step to encourage teenagers to exercise caution when viewing content,” emphasized the company. Importantly, this feature will be available to all users, not just teenagers, underscoring Discord’s commitment to a safer online environment for all.

These security enhancements mark Discord’s ongoing efforts to make its platform a safer space for users, particularly teenagers. By implementing these measures, the company is taking a significant step towards fostering a more secure online community, ensuring that Discord remains a trusted platform for users of all ages.
